Seussical the Musical

Seussical the Musical is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza!  Meet all your favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie Bird, and a little boy with a big imagination — Jojo.

Seussical is based on the works of Dr. Seuss and weaves together his most famous tales and characters from at least fifteen of his books. The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing Whos, including Jojo, a Who child who thinks too many “thinks.”

Horton faces a double challenge—he has to protect the Whos from a world of dangers and also guard an abandoned egg, left to his care by the irresponsible Lazy Mayzie Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping, and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him.

Traveling everywhere from the Jungle of Nool to McEligott’s Pool, some of the characters fall in love, some have desperate adventures and some even save the world. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community are challenged and emerge triumphant. Seussical is fun for the whole family!

Performances are July 12, 13, 19, and 20 at 7 p.m. with 2 p.m. matinees on July 14 and 20. Tickets are $12 for adults; $10 for children 12 and under. Join the Evansville Community Theatre for this colorful, energetic show featuring a cast of 50 and a live pit orchestra. The show is presented in Evansville’s state of the art Performing Arts Center inside Evansville High School at 640 South Fifth Street in Evansville.

Seussical, with music and lyrics by Tony Award winners Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens is co-conceived by Lyn Ahrens, Stephen Flaherty, and Eric Idle. Seussical is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International.
